Lax Firms Contribute to Dishonesty
AUCKLAND, July 20. A rider deploring the lack of moral standing on tlie part of firms who re- : eeived goods without making sure they had been obtained * hon'estly, was brought in by a jury which found Clinton Henry Jerard, aged 30, traveller, gnilty on a charge of stealing 24 tons of white lead valued at £400, in the Supreme Court. Mr Justice Finlay remanded accused for sentence. Announcing the verdict -of the jury, the fofeman said ,the jury felt there was a lack of moral standing on the part of firms who received goods bearing a well known firm's brand, especially goods that were in short supply, without finding out definitely where the goods came from. The jury considered that if there was less iaxness of this sort,- in business, thert would be less stealing. His Honour said he would pass 011 the jury's rider to the proper authori,ies.
