Chess Clubs Have Enjoyable Evening
Thc Levin and District Chess C'ub had a most enjoyable evening last Monday, when it was favoured with a visit from members of the Palmerston North Chess Club Messrs F. Gatley (presi'dent), G. Beere (secretary) and T. Lepviikman, ex-N.Z. champion. Mr. Lepviikman ga.ve a display of simultaneous chess, playing against eight of the club's strongest players ah at the same time. He was unbeaten, scoring seven wins and a draw, the* latter against Mr. R. T. Woodfield. Mr. Gatley then gave a talk on chess club matters generally, with particular reference to tournament | play both within the club and with i other clubs, and to the advantages of affi iation with the N.Z. Chess! ' Association. As a result, the members vc'ted unanimously to affiliate forthwith. It is hope'd to send at least two members zo play in the annual match Wellington v, Provinces, at Palmerston North in September, Play next Monday will be at the home of Mr. JfPerigo, 9 Hereford Street.
