WELLINGTON, July 20. ; A total of 990 applications for 200 ; vacancies, had been received for fthe \ speeial training course for teachers, ; said the Minister of Education, Mr Mc- j Combs, to-night. He added that the l work of selection had already begun j and candidates would be advised as; early as possible in August whether ; they had been seleeted. ! ' ' From the large number of applica- ; tions received, there should be no dif-; ficulty in selecting a group of excel- ; lent- trainees whose entry to the «er- : vice after certification, will help meet ; the present shortage of trained teach- , ' ers," said the Minister.
