Red Armies In China Move South
CANTON, July 20. Chinese Communist armies striking Koutliwestward from Naneliang, liave crossed into Hunan Province at two points and are continuing their advanee. Comnmnists who entered Ichang have also taken Shasi midway 011 the Yangtze between Ilankow and lehang. Six Communist divisions have begun crossing the Yangtze at points between lehang and Slia^i. Xationnlist troops have recaptured Kian, an important town ."00 mile.-, north of Canton. Ivian f'ell into Com muiiist hands during their three-proug-etl drive ou the ('anton-Haukow railway tuwns of Changsha, Chueliok and Ileng yang. Chinese Air Force observers report that at Shanghai, many small vessels without right, are flying British or Anieriean flags. It is presumed the owners thereby hope to cscape Nationalist air attacks. A Government spokesman said a Foreign Office order to protect ships legitimately flying these flags. had drawn British and American atlention to this abuse.
