Personal. Mr. and Mrs. Brassington, of Newtown, left last evening on a holiday visit to the north. "Serviceman's Showdown." The Shannon R.S.A. carnival in aid of the war memorial hall will offleially comnience tomorrow evening, when a variety show will be presented by an all-male cast of "Diggers" and "Kiwis" and entitled "the Shannon Serviceman's Showdown." Rehearsals have been going off very well and it is expected that tomorrow evening's show will he very favourably presented-. Badminton Club. There was a fair attendance of players at the weekly club night of Che Shannon Badminton Club on ' Monday evening. An unofiicial competition match wias arranged and proved very enjoyable. The secretary, Miss B. Gardner, advises that she has a supply of tickets for the forthcoming match hetween the visiting Australian team and Horowhenua, to he played at Levin on Wednesday, July 27. Local players and other interested persons requiring tickets are asked to contact Miss Gardner, or they may leave their requiremen'ts at Mr. Downes' office or Mr. Tippler's shop, where arrangements will be made.
