Swiss Visitor Gives His Impressions And Advice

•AUCKLAND, July 18. Three weeks in New Zealand liave i left Hans Vogt, a Swiss company diree toi*, with defmite ideas about the coun try's attraetions and some simple sug•gestions about' how they could be iiuproved. He is making a world tour, appraising each eountry.so* fhat he can make worthwhile reeommendation to the Swiss people who want to, emigrate, Mr Vogt' has already been througli the United States, Japan, Hong Kong^ the Philippines, lndia, Batavia and Australia. He left by air for Austra.lia this niorning. * . Rere is a precis of what he has to say about New Zealand and its people: Hotels: 'They are better than the . reputation they have abroad. I heard Amerieans and others who liave been here/say they are rotten but I' found the service high class and friendly, meals well prepared with plenty of clioice, bedrooms elean and comfortabie and above all liot water coming from the hot water taps. But in some reputable hotels the waitresses only have one menu card. Why not have a menu on eacli table in every hotel?" Immigration laws: "This flngerprint business you have to go through at the police station makes you feel like a criminal. The form you have to fill in about obeying the laws of the country seems entirely unnecessary. ' ' The people: "They are among the rnost friendly in the world and it is a pleasure to move about among tliem Tlie bus (drivers are excellent and go out of their way to explaiu things." Drinking laws: "Ah, yes! They an? not too good. It makes life at a tourist resort very dull. Take Rotorua. There's uo plaee. to go at night except for a swim and the baths close too early. " Still, Mr Vogt is certain New Zealand has the greatest attraetions of any Land he has seen. x The glaciers and mountains of the South Island outstripped the Swiss AIjjs. He will recommend New Zealand to would-be immigrants.
