Mary Anaerson (Westland) in the Legislative Couneil this afternoon. .Bhe then saia that the Minister of Health (i\Uss Howard had permitted lier to say that the suggestion had »been made seyeral , times in the last few years . that the allowance should be paid to the ea'mp management for periods o/ six or ei,ght weeks or however long the ehild eoncerned was in canrp. Both in 1940 and1 1947* the suggestion that the Social Security DepartmenL should pay the 10s w'eekly to the capip administration was rejected by >he.Government. It was then suggestea that mothers. should be asked to pay the allowance to the camp 'management . committee, but tjiis suggestion had not borne fruit. As far as the Department was concerned it had no wish to inquire as to how the allowance was spent by the mothers. It should be looked upon as £20 a year to meet .continuing needs such as clothing for the children jmstead of a day-to-day sustenance" allowance.
