Future Of Public Reserves In Waimeha
The future use of public reserves in Waimeha tovmshjp is worrying the: Waikanae Beach Progressive and . , "Ratepayerq' Association so much/so that at its annual meeting recently iP pa&sed a resolution that the residents of 'tffle township were of .the opinion that un'der no circumstances should they be sold, excharige'd, '. ... bartered ' or otherwise alienated from community ownership, and that steps be taken to ensure that all unauthorised impediments which obscructed or prevented free public access to any reserve be removed within three months of the date of the meeting. The resolution was conveyed to the Horowhenua County Council and was discussed at iis estimates meeting on Wednesday. The chairman, Mr. A. M. Colquhoun, said that delegates from the council were to have met the association in June, but owing to the i lness of its presrdent the meeting had been postponed until July. He hoped that when the meeting took p.ace an opinion of what should be done.. with the reserves could be1 ob'tained from the association, and some arrangement perhaps made for the handing over of some' authority to it to look after the grounds. The county clerk, Mr. F. H. Hudsoil, said that the association, he unaerscood, wa-s desirous of beautilying the aiea cy tr.ee pianting an\d, as the pianting seas~«n was approaching, it felt that it wouid like some aucnority from the council. Mr. Colquhoun said it wou.d be a good ges-ure from the council to snow the association that it was wiiiing to eo-operate and the v/hole matter couid be discussed .with the association.
