Designs For Canterbury Centennial Stamps

WELLINGTON, July 13. Designs for the Canterbury centennial stamp issue have been aecepted and tenders for the production of the stamps are being invited in the United Tvingdom, said the Postmaster-General (Mr. ITackett), to-day. He added that the colours of the stamps liad yet to be decided, but the subjects of the selected designs, with the nanies of the designers, were: One pe'nny (Mr. .T. Berrv, Wellington), . a \'iew of Canterbury IJniversity College, shbwing the Memorial Hall; twopence (Mr. L. C. Mitchell, Wellington), a svmbolic design featuring the arrival of pioneer women on the erest of the Lyttelton Hills and also the cairn erected to their mcmory; threepence (Mr. J. A. Johnstone, Christchurch), featuring ' John Robert Go/llcy, a fonnder of Canterbury, taken from the Christchurch statue- with a representalion of the earlv immigrant ship Cressy in the background; sixpence (Mf. Berrv), featuring the . Chrit,f *» h •- -h Cathedral. The Minister added that awards for designs of high merit were being made to Messrs. E. A. Aubin, .). D. Allingham, and R. Miller (Dunedin), F. R.
