Surprised!

He was surprised to read in a Wellington newspaper on Wednesday a report from Dannevirke1 expressing disappointment that the; Bebbington Shield was not present- : ed to the visiting team on the field, said the Horowhenua Rugby Union's. president, Mr. R. L. Robinson last1 night. He believed the players themselves were quite happy with1 Ihe arrangements. The shield was presented at a formal functio» under the grand-i stand after the players were dressed and partaking of refreshments provided by the union, said Mr. Robinson, and not, as reported, ! while they were still changing. He, as president of the union had handed over the shield and officials from; both unions were present. In the1 past the Horowhenua union had adopted this method and it had always proved satisfactory, and dispensed with the necessity of p'ayers having to wait around in: the cold after a hard game. Horowhenua had received the shield from the Bush union the preyious year in exaetly the same manner. Mr. Robinson said he hoped that the paragraph in the city newspaper would not mar an excellent game or indicate discourtesy on fche part of the Horowhenua union. The union had done its best to entertain the visitors and he himself had met the team on i'ls arrival at Levin, personally saw that they obtained meals and showed them over the ground. He was sure the team itse'f had been appreciative and had enjoyed the visit as much as the Horowhenua team had done,
