Shannon Dairy Company Has Successful Year

The balance sheet recently issued by the Shannon Co-operative Dairy • Company for the 1948-49 season Shows an increase of over ld on the average payment for butterfar when it compared with the 1947-48 season. The average payment for the previous season was 26.284d. The advance for finest grade cream 'this past season was 24d, and an exura payment of 3.5d is being made. The payment over all grades of cream was 23.902d, together with an e'xtra payment of 3.5d plus the veterinary levy of .05d and free Exporter .005d, giving an average payment of 27.457d. The output this season was 1330 tons, being an increase of 154 tons over last year when it was 1176 tons. This increase is due to the very good conditions which prevailed over the autumn. The generai statistics for the year are-as follows, those for last year being given in parenthesis:— Average payment, 27.457d (26.284d) ; number of suppliers, 260 (248) ; butterfat, 2,450,852 Ibs. (2,187,830 Ibs.) j butter made, 2,979,496 lbs., or 1330 tons (2,634,348 lbs., or 1176 tons); average grade, 93.597 (93.660) ; over-run, 21.56 (20.40) ; total charges per lb. butterfat to f.o.b., 2.2455d (2.2018d) ; store saies, £55,492 (£50,587 ) ; cream gra'ded finest, 89,5 (85.5) ; first, 9.8 (13.4) * second, .7 (1.1). A rebate of five per cent. on score accounts has been made over the 12 months and has

absorbed £2161-. A total amount of £279,825 will have been distributed throughout the area during the past season. Several land ballots have been held in this dishict over the past few months and it is expected that a number of returned servicemen farmers will be joining the list of suppliers during this season. These additional suppliers will -do much to make the coming season of the company an even better one. The forty-first annual generai meeting will be held in the Parish Hall on Wednesday, July 20, at 12 noon. The business of the meeting will include the election of two directors. The retiring directors are Messrs R. Hook and W. L. Carter, Mr. Hook being eligible for re-election, but Mr. Carter is retiring from the board. The following nommations have been received to fill the two vaca.ncies: — Messrs, R. Hook, H. A. Seifert and G. R. Barnes. I Matters pertaining to the vetermary club will also be attended to at the meeting.
