Lime and Subsidy Allocations
Although the amount eontributed to the farming industry poo'l aceounts by South Island f armers was only half that put in by f armers from the North Island, the South Island withdrawais from the pool funds by way of lime subsidy were double those of the North Island, elaimed Mr W. J. Galloway (Otald-Te lloro) at yesterday's meeting of the provincial executive -of Manawatu Federated Farmers. He was commentirig on a letter from the Dominion headquarters of the federation regarding a new lime subsidy schenuf which is to come into operation late this year. "That is one of the weaknesses oi the subsidy system," said the Manawatu president (Mr H. J. McLeavey). "It is a for'nfi of socialism." "Oh, don't try to tnrn it %side like that, Mr Galloway interjeeted. "The pool funds slionld be split into two for the North and South Islands so that subsidies can be taken from the funds in a fairer manner. " M-r McLeavey: I would like to see the funds split up into funds for individual farmers. That jnight stop some of the grumbling which goes on about them.
