Otaki To See Maori Rugby Teams In Action

On -July 30 a Wellington Maori rugby team will play a combined Horo whenua -■ Wairarapa - Bush Maori team at Otaki. At 'last night's meeting of the management committee of the Horowhen.ua Rugby Union Mr. T. Winiata advised that the combined team had been selected as under: — Backs:— Full-baek: Huff (Horowhenua) ; three-quarters: Poutu (Horowhenua) , Kurow (Wairarapa), Carter (Wairarapa); 'fiveeignths: Parker (Wairarapa), Heremaia (Horowhenua) ; halfback: Haeta (Wairarapa). For war ds . — Thompson ( Bush ) , Lincoln (Horowhenua) , Winterburn (Horowhenua), Mitchell (Bush), Blake (Wairarapa), Gray (Horowhenua) , H. and R. Power (Bush) . Reserves.— Backs: M. Winiata and G. Sciascia (Horowhenua) . Forwards: F. Nepia and R. Hohipuha (HorQ whenua) . Commenting, Mr. Winiata, who was one of the selectors, said that there were not many Maori players in the Bush union, while some in Wairarapa were not available. Both these unions were very keen on Maori games and he was convinced that they would strongly support them in the future. The committee voiced its thanks to Mr. Winiata for his work in the selection of the combined team.
