Received Tuesday, 7 p.m. . . -LONDON, July II. j The long dry spell has not yet seri- ■ ously affeeted crops in most parts or ! Britain, but at least 48 hours of ateadyj rain would be required to swell the ears; of wheat, oats and barley and refresiij I the grass pastures. j I Wheat and barley have ripened so . rapidly during the past fortnight ttiar harvesting has already eommenced in some counties. In most counties there was just enough rain during May and June to maintain growth in cereal crops, but early potatoes have been generally affeeted and the yields are likely to be well below last season's heavy average. The western counties, which generally have among the highest rainfall in the United Kingdom, have suffered most from the dry conditions.
