W.D.F.F. Celebrates Its Birthday

There was a large gathering of members and visitors at the 18th birthday celebrations of the Shannon branch of the Women's Division of Federated Farmers, held in Laurvigs' Hall recently. The president, Mrs. E. Barber, extende'd a welcome to all and wished them a very happy afternoon. A group of young people entertained with a short programme which was appreciated by all. They were Kay Collins (recitation) , Allan Lucinsky (songs), Rosanne Cane and Beverly Miers (pianoforte duets). Games were won by Mesdames Gray (Palmerston North) and K. Mitchell. Mrs. Barber expressed the thanks of the division to Mrs. Allerby for making and donating the birthday cake. Representatives of the Palmerston North Centre, the Bainesse and Moutoa branches, the Shannon Women's Institute, the Plunket Society, the Senior and Junior Red Cross and the women's section of the R.S.A. took part in the ceremony of lighting the candles. Each sister organisation extended birthday greetings and good wishes for the future prosperity of the Shannon branch. " The president was the recipient of many floral tributes and visiting representatives received shoulder sprays. Two foundation members, Me'sdames L. H. Best and C. Guerin, blew out the candles and Mrs. Best cut the cake. • y Prizes won during the year were presented by the president as foliows: — Cooking (trophy donated by Mi'-s..^Miers) , aMrs; Best; bloom (trophy donated by Mrs. Home -Douglas ) , Mrs. K. Mitchell; sewing (trophy ddnated by Mrs. Dujaney), Mrs. C. Guerin; most entered (trophy - donated by Mrs. Burling), Mr§. J. R. Miers; most points (trophy donated by Mrs. Mitchell), Mrs. C. Guerin.' A large display of handwork made by Mrs. J. Newton was, admired and Mrs. Newton was thanked for the display, the arrangement of which had entailed considerable work on her part.
