Police Watch Thief Hide Stolen Goods
Removing a latly's overcoat from the Te Horo Mall on Saturday night while a dance was in progress, Robert Tua Teko Ngaheke, surfaceman, of Te Horo, thought a nearby hedge would be a good place to conceal it. A rude shock awaited him on returning to coliect the pilfered coat, as two policemen, who were sitting in a car outside the hall and had seen him "plant" the coat, awaited his return. This was revealed by Sergeant W. S. HugRes iii the Poiice Court, Otaki, yesterday morning, when Ngaheke appeared before Messrs. H. B. Edhouse and W. McBeth, J.P.'s, charged with stealing the coat, the property of one of the visiting Hawke's Bay lady hockey players. Ngaheke said that he intended to return the coat to its owner. He could not, however, name the owner. A fine of £5 and costs was inflicted, and the coat is to be returned to its owner.
