A United States officer sliot and killed a Russian soldier inside the American Zone border in an exchange of fire betweeu an American constabulary patrol and a Russian troop unit. Tne United States patrol was checking border markings when it was lired on. Tne Americans returned the lire and oue voung Russian private was killed. A United States constabulary headquur ters spokesman said the Americans . found the body of the shot Russian soldier more than 200 yards inside the American zonal border. All the Russians who lired on the Americans were a similar distance inside the American border. 1 Major-General Isaae White, comtnander of the United States constabulary in Gertnany, said his men were weli witniu their rights in opening lire to defend themselves. "We shall protest against this unprovoked attack on American troops, in the strongest posIsible language at the highest level," he said.
