WELLINGTON, July 8, Eleven business firms wero proseeuted by the Registrar of Companies . in the Magistrate's Court today for failure to pbta;in a business lieence for 1949. Fipes ranging from 10s. to £2 lQs. were imposed by the magistrgte, Mr. J. S. Hanna, Prosecuting for the registrur, M?W; R. Birkes said that lieence fees from business firms were usually qbtained without recqurse to the Cburts. . Every year or two prosecutions had to be instituted tq bung the necessity for paying the fees before the notice of company managers and secretaries, ' said Mr. Birkes. in these days Qf shprt staffs, he added, the department did not have the time nor person- ' nel. to. go and colleet the fees.
