Communist Expansion Halted
Received Tuesday, 7 p.m. NEW YORK, July 4.'. Communist expangion in Europe has' been halted at least temporarily by America's growing military strength, said Lieutenant-General Walter Bedell Smith, former United States Ambassador to Russia, in a speech at 'Williamsburg, Virginia. "Bv constant reorganisation, our armed forces are approaching a semblance of military strength eonsistent with onr world position and commitments. It is our strength — actual and potential — and a realisation that this strength has been grbwing that hhs halted at least temporarily, the time of Communist expansionism in Europe — in face " O'f our determined opposition, "■ he said.'
