Public Asked To Keep Off Rugby Playing Area

- • •• . .. - •' .i Cammenting on a Press report that the Levin Borough Council was concerned over members of the public encroaching on the Levin Park Domain playing area at footba'l, matches during half time, the referees' delegate last night asked the management committee" of the Horowhenua Rugbv Union to taka firm- steps to see that the council's request was met. During subsequent discussion i* was suggested that th©- police mighbe asked to assist the union in this matter. A motion to this effect was passed unanimously. - The managers for the coming representative fixture were appointed as follows: — Manager for the senior Dannevirke team, Mr. R. L. Rohinstin; manager for Dannevirke thirds, Mr. A. Ha!ey; managers for Horowhenua seniors and thirds. Messrs D. J. Oliver and Juno respectively. The thjrd grade prayers are to assemble at i:he main gate of the domain at 12.45 p.m. and the seniors at the stand at 2.15 n.m. Shahhoh. . ; The Shannbn. delegate said, that. ha , had heen informed bv the Hui Mai team.pf its: default, but as Hui Ma t was. the defaulting team he had ,not, considered it , Jbis. place to nodfv anyone else. .It, was decided to impose a fine of 7s 6d on the Hui Mai team, 5s for failure to notify the referee and 2s 6d for the referee's expenses. The Old Boys third grade delegate said that his. team had gone to Otaki to olay Otaki thirds on Saturdav and had ha& no game. He moved that the expenses for hiringa bus, amounting to £2 10s, be paid by the defaulting team. There was no. seconder to this motion. The Otaki delegate, Mr. E. J. Cook, said that the game had been drawn for the domain, but just before noor* the town clerk at Otaki had nntified him that the game could not be played there owing to bad weather conditions. The game ha'd heen changed to the "racecourse at Ihe last minute. Half the Otaki team had gone to the domain and half to the racecourse. The- players at the domain had later gone on to the racecourse, but Old Boys had turned up just after this and by the time ./they learned '' the -venue had been changed it was too late to play the game before the main match began. The explanation was accepted, Mr. Robinson saying that" it was just unfortunate. «
