Miserable Weather Over Weekend
. In keeping with other towns m the district, Shannon had a miserable weekend with the result that only the hardy made their way out of doors on Saturday afternoon. The foothall matches played on. the domain were poorly attended. Both games were playe'd under the worst conditions experienced for many years. Plaices of amusement were also affected. A slight rise in. the Mariawatu River, together with full drains, have resulted in much of the low-lying land at Makerua and Opiki heing under water. Theconly bright spot in a miserable weekend is the fact that 3.05 inches of rain at Mangahao has. filled the two back dams and the power supply seems a little more secure; 1.44 inches of rain was recorded at the Mangaore power house. * . A rather heavy frost on top of the damp conditions un'der foot _ added to the discomfort of early risers this morning.
