Merriful, travelling fast on the tiat, tried to keep with Gaiety but tne A\iapuni-trained mare was jumping brilliantly and she rau home an easy winner from JMerriful, d5 lengths m front of Magnus Lux. Hawke 's Bay Hurdles In the Hawke 's Bay llurdles the issue was in doulot until Jon Kosa, w hieh had been well back, mo\ed up fast at the live to be withm strikmg distance of Beaulitha ahead ot Generat Lytup, Peria Prince, Tremeilo and Eoxland. When the field straightened up for the run to the last fenee there was onlv three left iu it and Jon llosa won bv a neck from Beaulitha four lengths in front of General Lytup. Iremeilo was fourth and Boniiort lifth. The President's Handicap The President 's Handicap was won by Titahi which, well and patiently ridden by W. L. Aitken, mov'ed up to be oue of the leaders into the straight and then drew away to win easilv by li\ e lengths from Hulabaloo halt a length i front of Gildeliase. Titahi paid just on a score for the win anu Hulabaloo more than that on the place inacliine. Kippo was always oue oi the leaders and he rau another grand race for fourth, being followed home by Earldale, Copper Coin, Balnt d'Amour and Phanion. Two Favourites Win The favourites vvon the diviilends ot the Pakowhai Hurdles an-d their winning margins were decisive. They were Xew Deer, Queen 's Charm and Bulaselle. The winner of the second division was The Btormovik from Niloch aua Carey. Ke.en Wit fell in that division. The Frimley Trial Glide In, winner of the tirst division of the Frimley Trial, was a short-pricect favourite. Glide In, ridden by K. B. Ireland, won by 12 lengths from the little-fancied Shirley Ann, which just beat Sandalwood. The second division was won by Nakura, from Awapuni, who was inaking his first appearance under silk. W. J. Broughton had Nakura in belmut the leaders, Paper Spy, Indiau Moon and Cousette, as they straightened up and he drove hini througli at the distance and won by three lengths froni Indian Moon a neck ahead of Ladt Gretehen. . Grande Pame's Big Diviciend The hack distance event, the Kaukawa Hack Handicap, provided the biggest upset of the meeting, the Gisbornetrained Grande Dame w^nuing to letuin over three score, with the favourite, Conclusion oue of four horses falling a little over three furlongs from the post. Lady Lotus,- Atomic Energy, Aratueky, Beauform, Conclusion and ITigh Proiit were the leading division at the mile, and the onler was much the same down the back. Just after the field had passed the half-mile Run Bahadur eame down and Conclusion, Beauform and Vienna View were also involved. Lady Lotus led Aratueky,- Grande Dame, Atomic Energy and High Profit into tne straight, and Grande Dame eame on to win by a neck from Lochlea, who eame from a long wav back after having 'had to dodge the f'allen horses. • Aratueky was only a nnse away, third, ahead ot.
