Blackness Descends On Strike-bound Ship

WELLINGTON. .Tuly 3. The Canadian ship Tridale was a black, eold ship tonight — -no electric light, no power, no steam. The only gleam was an occasional wink of a toreh or hurric-ane lamp carried by the wateh and constable 'alone aboard. Only the captain, officers, engineers and crew were to be allowed on board, said the watchman. Of these, however., there was no sign. When a reporter* called, the watchman and constable had got a galley fire going and were looking forward to keepi'ng out the uneharitable night with tea. Tomorrow it is hoped to get a co.ndenser working for a supply of hot water ana lighting. The present position developed on Saturdav morning when the crew reaffirmed their deeision to continue the strike. The engineers, save the chief, decided that though their working agreement precluded a strike, they would not do any work normally performed by the crew.
