Austria Not Afraid Of Communist Putsch
Received Priday, 7.40 p.m. LONDON, June 24. The Austrian Minister of the Interior (Heri Oskar Helmer) does not believe there is any danger of a Communist putsch in Austria either now or when the Allied troops withdraw from the country. In an exclusive interview with Reuter 's Vienn.a correspondent Herr Helmer pointed out that certain "basic conditions which did not exist in Austria would he essential for an attempt to include Austria within the bloc of Soviet satellite countries. The Ccnmmamist Party, he said, had its men in very important positions in satellite countries long before a putsch and was thus ahle to change their political structure, but the Austrian Communist Party was weak and lacked influence. Whether Russia could exercise direct or indirect pressure on Austria would largely depend on the final text of the Peace Treaty. Herr Helmer added: "In any case Austria will use all her strength, armed or unarmed, to resist according to the kind of pressure itsed."
