Personal. s The 'aeath occurred on Wednesday night of Elizabeth, 18-months-oid daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. Tahiwi, of Tainui, Otaki. Four prominent members of the Otaki-Te Horo Young Farmers' Ciub, Messrs Eddie Dittmer, Peter Eiiiott, Trevor Fosden an'd Lloyd Russell, have been visiting Auckland for the annual meeting of 'the New Zealand Federation of Young Farmers' C.ubs'. Bob. Hakaraia, the local boxer-, took part in the main amateur fight which preceded the big bout at Palmerston North earlier in the week. Winner of his three previous fights, Bob'. on this occasion was beaten on points by B. Westhail, of Hawke's Bay. To Play In Sydney. Ran. Jacob, sun of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Jacob, Otaki Raifway, who is at present studymg veterinary science at Sydney University, has been selected to fill the half-back position 'for Combined Universities on Saturday in Sydney. The match will be played as the curtain-raiser to the third test, Maoris v." Australia, and Combined Universities wiJ meet New South Wales.
Church Restoration. Work in eonnection with the restoring of the Rangiatea Church is proceeding apa.ce, and should the present rate of progress be maintained the month of July should see-this major task successfully concluded. Representatives of severai trioal committees wili meet in Otaki at the weekend, when matters in eonnection with centenary celebrations in eonnection with the historic church will be considere'd.
Measles Very Prevalent. The outbreak of measles locally has probably reached the epidemic stage, and a large number of auults, as well as countless children, are among the cases. As a result attendances at schools are afiected, with the staffs of some local organiations also depleted. Necessary precautions are being taken in an. eft'ort to prevent spreading. and contacts are advised to stay away from school during the "contagious" fortnight.
The Spoils To The Victors. Statistics com'piled reveal that five Otaki trained hirses have won over the £1000 mark this season, with two ex-Otaki trained animals also figuring in this c'ass. The promising Avenger tops the list with £2970, his five wins, two seconds and two thirds yie'ding this han'dsome return for his popular local owner. Blue Seal is next with £2160 from three wins, five seconds and three thirds. Next comes the new jumping star, First Act, who has secured three wins, a like number of seconds and one third to amass £1835. Closely following comes Castlebrae, £1605 from three wins, one second and one third. Then fofiows his stablemate, Lady Myrtle, £1415 from three wins, two seconds and four thirds. , Tuatea, who recorded one of his three wins while in the Avenger stable, won £1535, with Nullah, who secured two wins and a like number of seconds while trained here, returned his owners £1360.
