NEW PLYMOUTH, June 23. Legislation is bei^g prepared to dea.' with the. position of dry shareholders in dairy companies, the Minister of Agri culture told the annual conference ot the National Dairy Federation at Ha vvera to-day. Ile expressed the opinion that the bost method of eonducting a dairy company was by wet sharehold er control. A move to have payment made fo: butter by the Government, at the fac tory instead of at the port of despatcn, was heavily defeated by the conference. The remit, put forward by the Kaiteku Dairy Company, was based on the fac: tliat no allowance is made in the guaranteed price for the difference in freight paid farmers in remote areas. The conference felt the proposal wa: associated with dangers that in th long run would be contrary to the interests of tlie industry. The conference is to seek the implcmentation of the Goyernment pro miso regarding the building of state houses for dairly factory workers. In a diseussion on remits from Shannon and Maugaturoto, regret was expressed that, after the subject had been befon the last two conferences, no fmality had been attained.
