Bach Near Racecourse Gutted By Fire
A two-roomed wooden bach was alffiost completejy destroyed early this -mornirig when fire, which originated on a bed, swept through the s-ructure. Using 400 feet pf hose, the voiunteer firemen of the Levin Brigade attacked the flames, which. had a strpng hpld, with ultimate success but the building . was gutted beyond repajr and .none of the contpnts were'saved. The bach, which -is alongside the training stables in Mako Mako Road and is the property of tho Levin Racing Club, has been cccupied; by ,a Mabri, hut he bas been atsent from the premises 'for the last two days attending a funeral - in Shannon. ' The caretaker of the racecourse wqs the 'first to notice something amiss; smellin-g burning material at an early hour this morning. Investigating he saw the reflection of flames 'through the window. He broke into the bach, which was filjed with smoke, and notiged the bed on fire. He pulled it outside and extinguished the flames. It was not "until some time later, however, that he noticed the bach itself was allght and he summoned .the hrigade. The fire spread quickly, however, and the buTding was ablaze from end to end when th-. hrigade arrived.
