Austrian Treaty Finalised; Plan For Germany

The Big Four Foreign Mihisters tonight announced that they had reached agreement on the concmsion of the Austrian Feace Treaty nu a "live and let live" arrangement between the occupying r-owers in Germany. They wound up their four weeks' talks with a two and a half-hoiir meeting, which ended in hand-7 shakes all round and the communique announcing the agreement. All four Foreign Mipisters then went to the buffet of the Rose Palace, where the talks have been held, and had orie drink together, On the Austrian Treaty the Ministers instructed their deputies to resume work immediately to reach agreement on completing the draft peace treaty by September 1. They announced that Austria's frontiers would be the same as those of January 1, 1938, that Austria would pa^ no reparations and that the Soviet Union would receive £37,500,000 in convertible currency, to be paid by Austria in six years. The German agreement announced that further Four-Power consultations would be held in New York next September to consider the next Big Four meeting on Gerrpany, that the New York agreement on the lifting of the Berlin blockade and zonal counter-block-ade would continue in Berlip and that steps would be take to improve Easfc-We,st trade.
