Nationalist Bombers Over Shanghai
SHANGHAI, June 20. Pedestrians scattered into doorways and alleyways and passengers clambered out of trams and buses when machine-guns in Shanghai s ■down town opened up this afiernoon on three Nationa'ist planes; over the city. The aircraft remained in the vicinity for. nearly an hour, but never at anytime below an estima.ed height of 7000 feet. j Several explosions were heard in western and south-western suburbs, ' where presumably planes unloaded bombs amid heavy anti-aircraft fire. ! In Canton, the Nationaiist For-' eign Office tonight notified the Americans not to land their planes at the Communist-he'd airfiel'ds at Shanghai and Peiping because Nationaiist. planes would attack those fields.
