a. u (jjxj-i Ai\ sj, june iy. An additional one penny for a 21b! loaf is to be charged as from July 1 on all bread baked by members of the Franklin Master Bakers' Sub-Associa-tion. About two-thirds of the subassociation's membership reaehed this decision at a meeting held last night at Waiuku. Unless a satisfactory settlement of the price question is reaehed, all bakers in the area will cease to mahe bread. The sub-association's decision wili raise the price of bread in its area to 7d for 21b. loaves sold over the eounter | and to 8M for home delivdries. The area served by members of the suhassoeiationu takes in Te Kauwhata, Pokeno, Mercer, Tuakau, Waiuku, Pukekohe and Drury. About 48,000 loaves are baked daily. This was the tliird meeting of master bakers to be held within a week, for the purpose of considei'ing prices in relation to increased costs. The bakers "of raeroa and Te Awanui tu deeidecl a few days ago to close their bakehouses nnless they were given satisfaction by the end of this month and at a meeting of Northland bakers a week ago it was deeided to cease baking if the Government or Price Tribunal adhereri to present prices.
