Brilliant Win To Renowned
TOTE INCREASE AT AWAPUNI After her great race in the Winter Cup, first day feature race at Awapuni, Renowned was a firm favourite for the Palmerston North Handieap. There were only eight horses behind her at the half mile and Renowned was badly placed. However, W. J. Broughton patiently waited for the chance and when it did come he drove Renowned through to win brilliantly by three-quarters oi a length from Brightside which ,from well back at the home turn, finished with rare courage to just b'eat Lord Holland for second money. Lord Holland was a short lehgth in front of Sparkling Scholar a nose in front of Angell, and Peter Nelson, which had led into the straight, was ncxt. Broughton was applauded as he rode back to weigh in, and his win on Renowned brought his winning 7'iVlpsi .in "Np.w 7,p.a land to one short of the thousand. >
