ONE POINT MARGIN DECIDES EVEN JUNIOR GAME

The two junior teams which took the field at Otaki were evenly matched and Rahui emerged th'e victors by the narrow-' margin of ene point over Waikanae, the former securing a penalty goal and a try to the latter's one converted try. The game was keenly contested and while it was devoid of anything very, spectacu'ar, there was li'tle rbspite for players. Rahui fielded th'e fitter pack of forwards, and their following up in the first half especially saw the winning points gained. Three penalty kicks in fairly quick succession cdihe Rahui's way While attacking early in the first half and with the third shot Iah Mudgway operied the scoring. Soon after a drop kiek by Matthews, which fell short, saw I. Mudgway score a meritorious try when he flew through an avalanche of defending , players to play the ball about three yards and dive over right on the corner flag. His kick was: unsuceessful. . Waikanae made several desperate attempts to score in the second half dnd S. Sweetman was ' rewarded with a try which B. Brown converted. Many fruitless penalties came Waikanae's way fairly late in the spell. For the victors I. ahd N. Mudgway, T. Fox and W. and D. Walker Ih the fdrwards gave sound displays, with R.- Giddens, T. Matthews, _ R. and L. Bevan and J. Gohnor making the best showin^s among the backs. -Actually the backs appeared to be going betler toWards the close. Fdr the. visitors the reverse was the case and J. Childs, S. Sweetman, Brown and N. Senge in the rearguard were sound throughout, but numdrous infringements by the forwards saw iheir efforts go awry, although Edwin, Daniel and Russell were good. Mr. J. Zuppicieh was thp referee.
