An unexpeeted situation, which forunately did not have serious consepiences, occurred in Motueka today following the ^orough Council 's lecision to remove' the fire siren from .he brigade station to the roof of the Jouncil ChamPer. It was arranged to ;ive the siren a trial to coincide with he niidday whistle of the local factory. On the strike of twelve the town •lerk (Mr. C. D. Wilson) set the siren n operation for the trial and then im nediately received a real alarm from he police station residenee where a lectrical fault had caused a fire in the lot water cistern cupboard. Members )f the volunteer fire brigade listened to „he siren with equanimity until its proonged wailing and some quiek work by lelephone exchange operators brought a sufficient number of firemen to the ■itation to man the engine.
