Increasing Difficulty Met By Selling Exports
Received Friday, 7 p.ni. LONDON, June 17. There is 110 longer any doubt that Britain 's eeonomic difficulties are sharpening, says the Manchester Guardian. The postwar boom in Britain has ended. It-has been possible during the past week to buy leading industrial shares more cheaply than at any time sinee 1944. The newspaper added : "This is as yet the end of the boom, not the start of the slump." The Daily Telegraph says pvice is the primary faetor in the falling American demand for British goods. The semi-luxury produets which America wanted were the first to dwindle in the time of recession sneh as America is experiencing. The Yorkshire Post said even the United States' vast resonrces might not be enougli to straighten Enrope's eeonomic troubles. The News-Ohronicle said the business situation in the United States must canse anxiety in Western Europe. "The signs of eeonomic deterioration in the United States mnst ha watehed with scareely snppressed hope and glee in the Communist eapitals." The Times said the sellers' market which liad persisted { sinee the end of the war was being replaced by "more norma] competition."
