County Councillors Should Be Sworn In
» DUNEDIN, June 10. "All county. councillors, on being 3lected, shall take the oat.h of allegiance and be sworn in before taking a seat at the council table." This was the text of a remit carried at the Counties Association conference this morning without discussion. Under the Counties Act, cbuncilllfs nominated unopposed are automatieaUy declared elected and take seats as soon as nominations close without haviflg to wait for a council meeting and be sworn in. Where an election is held councillors take their/ seats as soon as the results are announced.. Borough and mUni cipal councillors do not take seats ti!1 sworn in. • ■ . ,
