Between . 8 a.m. aiid' 9 a.m. ' 267 points of rain. f"ell and in the 24' hours ending 9 , a.m., 477 points feli. ' which is- the heaviest rainfall for oue day in June since 1896. The 'transport hold-up was the worst ' in "the city 's * history and many warehouses were. flooded. Tfam traffle was stopped and there was a panic, at the : Centr-al station where hundreds in a crnsh of crowds seeking shelter,. were forced outside into nine inch deep water. Telephone services Were also' disrupted. Heavy rain continues. -
