Unstable Floodgates Cause Concern
Oonceriied at tlie • inoperable corrdition of the floodgates on the Tokomaru Stream, whioh were claimed' to be unusable with only one exception, the Shannon branch of Federated Farmgrs requested- | the immediate attention of the Makerua Drainage Board to comj.pleite the dredging of the stream. i The branch stated that many Idrains in the Makerua area were ! full an-d speedy progress was necessary to remedy the matter. When the matter was discussed by the drainage board, it was resolved ot reply stating that the matter was being dealt with by the Manawatu-Oroua River Board, which was awaiting approval of an application for a £3 for £1 subsidy on the cost of the dredging operation. A further request from the branch, for attention to the banks along the Kara Stream and1 the main road cut, where several pomts were low and narrow, was referred to the engineer, Mr. O. J. Dolan, who reported that both were already included in his programme of works for the ensuing year. .
