AUCKLAND, . June 13. History has been made in the carpentry trade with. the drawing up in con ciliation by the reeentiy established Auckland Carpenters', Joiners' and Joiners Machinists' Union and the building trade enlpioyers, of a new aggreement providing for a guaranteeJ Weekly wage instead of payment onian hourlv basis as in the past. Importkot concessions have been made by the employers under the suburban work clause, one of the bones of contention m the recent protracted dispute. Efforcs are being made to have the agreement ratified by the Arbitration Court dur ing its current sitting in Auckland ending on July 7. The proposed weekly wage of £7 16;8d has been calculated at the rate oi 3s lld an hour for a 40-hour week. This hourly rate represents the 3s 9JJ granted by the Court in making tln last award for the New Zealand Car penters' and Joiners' Union in Decem ber, together with an increase of 1J( in accordance with the Court 's recenl standard wage pronouncement. . A1 though 3s lld is now the rate through out New Zealand, the meu covered by the new Auckland agreement will beucfit under the^vveekly arrangement a their earnings will not be reduce-J when building is at a standstill in we weather.
