WELLINGTON, June 14. The last New ZeeJand soldier from Japan, Pte. W. O. Simpson, of A'uckland, returned today by the Monowai, from Sydney and was given an "army reception." He was placed under arress by a s.er-geant-major and a eorporal. Pte. 'Simpson told pressmen that on November 23, when his draft of J-Force was about to leave for New Zealand, he was so busy saying goodbye to his friends that he missed the embarkation train. lemaining as a lone Kiwi in the East, The best thing he could do, he said, . was to surrenfier himself to the Amerieans and he remained with them for three months. Pte. Simpson, who is 39 years of age, said that he was born in Fiji and had lived most of his life in New Zealand.
