The Church's Observance Of Lord's Supper
"At an observance ,of the Lord's Supper tne Gospel is preached, and beiievers find new strength and assurance in it. They realise anew that -without the Cross there could be no Gospel," said Rev. A. Salmond, speaking at the quarterly observance of the Sacrament yesterday in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. "The Cross is a constant reminder to Christians that every suffering and deprivation that life brings them must be met as yet another opportunity to come into deeper feLoyship with God," he said. "In face of human tragedy and' suffering there is a kindliness about worldly wisdom which tries to comfort the sufferer by recalling the enjoyment of much happiness in the past, or by pointing out how mueh worse things could be, or by indicating vaguely another life where things will be put right. But such are no-u the approaches of Christian wisdom. That insists that men think not of other things, but of God in connection with the very trouble- men are in. "If a man offers his suffering to God in the great cause of human red.emption a light begins to g.ow in tfie darkness. Suffering can become an- equipment to sympathise, to love and to bear witness to the victory of God. The Cross of Christ and the secret of life are linked together." ■
