This was menI Itioned. at the monttny meeting of | the board last night, when it was 1 decided to forward a sdggested 1 date for the election to the EducaI tion Board for approval. In the I absence of the chairman, Mr. F. H. ! Hudson, Mr. D. P. Todd presi'ded. I The' principal of the College, Mr. I N. A. Byrne, imhis report for the j month, said 'that in a circular re- » cently received from the Education * Department, provisions were set out, ? making allowance in the computaI tion of 'staff for additional time 1 for heads of depamnents, senior 2 masters and mistresses and libra- ! rians. Under these provisions the | college became entitled to an addi2 tional assistant. Mr. Byrne udded, J however, that as he had not' yet I decided in whaf braneh of the col- | lege the extra assistant would be 1 used, he had not yet advertised the 1 position. During the month the college had had a visit from "the supervisor of physical -training, Mr. Shields, and a specialist in training for athletics, | Mr. Sharpley, instruction classes | being taken by them. Two memI Ibers of the Education Department | had a so visited the college and on ! | June 16 and 17 Messrs Green and I iCoombs and Miss York, of the I jVocational Guidance Centre, would I be visiting the college to interview | students. The po'st primary inI spectorate would also be visiting | the college on June 28, remaining | until July 1. I The annual concert would this 1 year be on similar lines to last year I a production, "H.M.S. Pinafore,'- | having been decided on. Rehearsals | had already started and the proj duction would be staged at the end I of the term. It was hoped to have I the services of a small orchestra. ! The laying of linoleum in two I rooms and ' in the kitcheri of the j flat had been carried out, but the I Wellington Education Board had 1 refused a request for linoleum in | the corridors on the grounds tha\ t it was against its policy to provide ■ it for corridors, said Mr. Byrne. 2 The prihcipal also reported that | the college's physical training in- ! structor, Mr. F. A. Moriarty, was ill I at his home in Auckland and could | not resume duty until permitted by ! his dpctor. He had; written to Mr. I Moriarty conveying' the sympathy I of 'the staff and "the board. ! The chairman said that Mr. I Moriarty had written tendering his I resignation from the staff as from § the end of the term. In moving f that the resignation be accepted, I Mr. Todd expressed regret and ap- | preciation of Mr. Moriarty's ser- ! vices to the college. The resignaj ti'on was accepted with regret.
