WAIPUKURAU,, Jqne 13. A spectacular fire completely destroyed the Wangitoto Station homestead at Rorangahau on Saturday afternoon and the owner, Mr. J. L. Hunter, who was the on'y member of the family on the premises at the time is a patient in the Waipukurau Hospital suffering superficial burns and shock. A well known landmark, the homestead was erected in 1929 and comprises about 20 . rooms. It caught fire after Mr. Hunter lit a rock gas stove 'and was sonn a mass of flames. Members of the family and station employees were attending a football match when the fire occurre'd. The homestead water suppV was inadequate to nrevent the flames spreading and in a short time the entire strueture1 was reduced to ruins. A large quantity of furni-ture-was saved, but the loss is severe. The insurance figufes were not available today.
