SHANNON SCORE OVER RAHUI
The Shannon seniors defeated Rahui by 14 points to three in an unexciting match on the Shannon Domain. There was no spectacular play. , • > From the kick off Shannon took the ball into the Rahui 25 and pressed on to the ten yard line, where a knock-on sent a scrum ,down a few yards ^out from the touch line. An infringement in the scrum gave Shannon a free kick. Callesen's shot at goal from a v§ry difficult angle failed to go over and Rahui forced. From the drop-out the game returned to half way, with rucking play resulting in th visitors being awarded a free kick. Davis attempted a long kick, which just went outside the posfcs, and Shannon forced. Play remained in Shannon ground for some minutes with a series of scrums and' lineouts. A passing rush by the visitors returned play to the home line, but an interception by Callesen saved a dangerous position for. Shannon. A long kick by Rahui sent the ball over the Shannon line for them to force. Soon after the drop-out, Poututu sent the ball well into the visitors 25, where the Shannon backs took possession and Tritt sent the ball out to Moynihan, who gained a few yards and returned to Tritt, who went across to score the first points of the game. Callesen failed to add the extra points. Play soon returned to the visitors' ground when a pass from Rauhihi to Tritt was knocked on and a scrum went down on the Rahui 25yard line and in the centre of the field. An infringement in the scrum resulted in a free kick for the home team and Callesen sent the ball over the crossbar to place the home team in the lead by six points. Play moved up and down the field with a series of lineouts and set Scrums oceupying the time until half-time sounded with the score unchanged. Play opened in the second spell with a passing rush by Rahui to the Shannon line, but Mortimer cleared with an excellent line kick. The game then moved into the visitors 25 and off-side play by one of the forwards gave Shannon another free kick. Callesen sent the bak nicely over the goal to give the (Continuedi on page 5)

WalJace's kick hit the uprights. The final whistle sounded soon after with the score at Shannon 14, Rahui 3. i Mr., D. Aitchison controlled the game. WIN FOR RAHUI JUNIORS' Unlucky on several former occasions a re-arranged bdck line saw Rahui juniors turn in a pleasing performance at Tokomaru to defeat the home side by nine points to three. A smart field goal by R. Giddens put the visitors on the attack and soon after T. Matthews secured a nice try. Highlight of 'the game was a try scored for Rahui by their full-back, J. Connor, after running from behind his own goal posts over the full length of the field. Securing possession while defending, he surprised the attacking forwards by stab-kicking over their heads, racing up and regaining possession for he and Matthews, in support, to hotfoot it for the Tokomaru line. A nice pass to Matthews saw the latter return "it when the defending full-back came out to meet him, and Connor took the pass to cross the line and complete an exciting movement. Another victory was secured by the Rahui fourths at the expense of Foxton, whom they defeated by 13 points to three. Two tries by Des. Smith were converted_by A. Morgan and a further try was secured by B. Connolly.
