Winter Beef Sells Readily At Feilding
\ ~ The sight of ox beef at'the Feilding live stock sule has become ratber rare and the presenee of three prime- bullocks yesterday exeited competition. The vendor had-no diffieulty in quitting them at £22. The last sale -of fat bullocks at Feilding was at the sale oi" January 28 when three beasts sold at £20. Exeepting for fat sheep entries were generally light and the fine weather brought a good attendanee of the publie. Prices for fat sheep showed little alteration beyond a steady lirming for ewes. Store sheep sold at late rates. Fat Sheep Ewe mutton represented - more than half the yarding of fat sheep whieh alinost equalled that of last week of approximately 1100 head. Several pens of wethers were passed in, buyers concentrating on the cheaper mutton. Iloggets were in short supply and mostly of the mediuni prime order. Prices for wethers were in line witli last weeks quotations with good prime sorfs selJing at 49s l()d. Ewe mutton moved up a shade to realise 30s ld for the hest and prime hogget* of whieh t.here was only one pen made 41s ld. Store Sheep A rather short yarding of store 'sheep made up of mostly small pens, met with a steady sale at priees fully up to late quotations. Several pens of wethers eahie forward and sold to 42s 6d. Half a dozen pens of in-lamb ewes; three of whieh were 2-ths., made a ready sale at prices in keeping with the quality. The balance of a yarding of about 1200 head eomprised hoggets. The realisations were:. In-lamb ewes: 82 2-th, empty, at 40s; 25 do r.w. Eomne> rara at 49s 6d; 20 do at 40s 7d; 51 5-yr. r.w. Fat Cattle " For the first time since the end of January ox beef was offered buyers when three prime A.A. -Cross bullocks were yarded on account of A. J. Lobb, of Feilding. These were big cattle in good eondition and reaiised £22, a figure equal. to approximately £2 17s per lOOlbs. Other saies of beef were:- Hei fer £14 12s Gd; eows £7, £9 17s 6d, £11, and £12. Station Cattle The only engaging entries in the sta tion eattle pens, apart from a few sinai! lots of weaners and odd steers and cows, was a pen of eight A.A. bullocks whieh attracted some competition and sold at £15 14s. Several cows r.w. bull fouinl a buyer at £8 18s and six small heifers were traded at £6 14s wliile six weaner steers sold at £8.
