Received Fridav, r.lo p.m. SINGAPORE, June 10. Gn his way haek to Britain after a lightning tour through Southeast Asia to Hong Kong, the Defence Minister, Mr. Alexander, said in Singapore today that he was ' ' no less eheerful about the position" than when he came out. He said: ' ' f am probabty more eheerful.'', Asked whether he thought Hong Kong could be defended against a frontal attack, Mr. Alexander said: "Hong Kong is not in the position it .was in 1941. The eircumstances aie entirelv different. " He added: "We will resol'utely guard this territory for which we are responsible," Mr. Alexander ^feid he was now less anxious abont Hong Kong's internal seenrity but added: "No Defence Minister will ever be satisfied that internal seenrity does not require improvement."
