Welsh Rugby Fears Inroads Of League
, LONDON, June 10. Welsh Rugby Union authorities reacted sharply to a challenge by the Ecague code whi-h is making strong cfiorts to establish itself in South Wales. Determined to hold the young players, the Welsh Rugby Union anlu unced it would wilhdraw its objec"oj:s to seven-a-side tonrnaments, vould promote matehes between leading clubs and junior sides, and would grant loans to clubs wisliing to purchase their own grounds. The League poiJc i.s also qndeavouring to establish itself in south Dastern England. Clubs have been formed in both Kent and Essex and an effort is now being made to link them up with new League elubs ostablished in the Loudon area. Some fniaiicial supnort for the movement in the south has been given by the Xorthern Rugov League but so far the "rganisers of ihe southern clubs have ; inslsted that they should be kept on a strictly amateur basis.
