Levin Piayers at Holiday Tournaments

(By

During King's Birthday weekend quite a number of members of jfhe Levin Golf Club travelled to tournaments in various parts of ihe Island. At Feilding, A. T. Saunders, A. F. Landers, J. McDonald and S. G edhill halved the teams match, losing on the toss. Harry Landers and John McDonald fought out a flight final, Harry proving too good at the finish. In the semi-finals he went to the 22nd, putting by guesswork in the dark to get a decision. At Dannevirke, yBert Richards won a group trophy and Harry McShane a gross trophy in the qualifying round. (No, not the lowest gross but .the highest!) High scoring was* the order of the day, as Dannevirke is a tight course where a loose shot very often means a lost bail, rather grim in qualifying rounds. Here • again. darkness caught up with some of the piayers, so much so.that several cars were used to floodlight the last green and allow the late starters to complete the qualifying round. At Otaki, Frank Veysey won a group trophy, while BiT Clark and pariner halved the bogey match with Doug Clark and partner, six up. Altogether, a very successful weekend and worthy of congratulations. There was no official club fixture, but a sweepstake medal was played and Syd Franklin again showed that wet conditions cause him little concern by returning a 72 nett. Scheduled for commencement on June 25, the foursome competition should give good experience in team work. It will prove a very interesting competition. Those pairs knocked out of the opening round will go into a flight and will play on for a consoladon trophy. It will be necessary, and advisable, to arrange your own partner in good time for the competition. so that you can decide on your tactics. Between us, there is more to playing a foursome than a casual decision i:i regard to who plays the' opening shot. Entries for the foursomes competitions close this weekend. The list is on the notice board so please enter your teams as soon as possible. The scheduled fixture for this week is the second rouhd of the Karakamea Cup.
