Maternity Home Plans Going Ahead
The plans for the maternity aospital in Levin were going ahead md the most contentious points dad been settled. He did not think it would be long now before the [Dorough would see some action. This was a statement made 'by the Mayor, Mr. H. B. Burdekin, when'replying to a letter published • in last night's "Chronicle" on the subject of a maternity home for the town. Mr. Burdekin, who was speaking at the fortnightly rpeeting of the Levin Borough Council, said that he deplored the. practice of citizens submitting their complaints cr suggestions to the newspaper columns, rather than to the council. HeV^ made particular reference to* ' writers using nom de plumes,"say- ■ ing that the council shouid not take any notice of them. One letter, however, had appeared that night under a name and he thought that it thus warranted an answer. The Health Department was fully aware of the necessity of quick action in the matter of Levin's maternity hospital, continued Mr. Burdekin, and there was nothing^ the council 'could do that it havl not already' done to hasten it further. "I can assure the public that nothing more can be done by.this council," he added. The plaris were now in Wellington and that was progress, as it was not so very long ago since they were merely in the preparation stage, he ad'ded.
