Thieve's broke into the Renown ; Theatre an'd the adjoining confectionery shop in Ballance Street ' during Sunday night. Entry was gained by forcing the theatre office" door after ari/ attempt to force the : main doors had failed.' ; A sum of small change was taken . from both premises, while other jarticles xemoved from the theatre 1 included a shot gun aird a quan- ' . tity of ammunition. A small table was removed from the ladies' lounge and a steel flling cabinet forced open and " the contents emptied over the floor. Almost , everything in the theatre office and film room had been disarranged and it is apparent that the thieves ! were searching for money, as other artieles of value= were passed over. . The theft was discovered on Monday morning when Mr. W. S. Forbes, the projectionist, arrived to prepare the programme for the evening screening. ^The police are investigating.
