WHAKATANE, June 7. Communism was mentioned- with concern a number of timeS at the, Dominion conferenee of the Le'gion of Fr'ontiersmen her6 at the weekend. In all cases abhorrence of the subversive doctrinp was the keynote, allied with. a flrm deterraination to carry out last yeg,r's resolution that all fr'ontiersmen fight this and any other- Subversive elaments by every means 'in their power. A strildng eontribution to the discussion was this from Captain A. G. Wallace (Masterton): "If we can find the cause which makes people turn to communism and eheck that, then we can check communism, but as soon as you create a state of inartyrdom you will get an inereased number of sympathisers for the martyr's cause. Find what is the basis of making people Communists, fix that, and communism will die out." Later discussing Rewi Alleyrs work in China Second-Lieutenant Gardner '( Palmerston -North) expressed a similar view saying: "What he is doing is one of the biggest fights against communism in the world today.
